Lyle Hewitson heads to Sha Tin on Sunday with a solid book of rides and is quietly confident of a good showing in the programme’s feature races.

After returning four winners from the opening 10 meetings of the season, Hewitson hopes Chancheng Glory and Call Me Glorious will be able to take a big step forward when they grace the Sha Tin turf this weekend.

Chancheng Glory twice fell agonisingly short of Galaxy Patch in June and Hewitson hopes the combination of a big weight swing and a promising recent trial will help his mount turn the tables when he jumps from barrier nine in Sunday’s Group Two Sha Tin Trophy (1,600m).

“The weight does swing things in our favour and he’s certainly going to make it interesting,” Hewitson said.

Chancheng Glory (outside) is narrowly denied by Galaxy Patch in June.

“Physically and mentally, I think he’s improved coming into this season and I think he’s a lot more versatile now. I don’t mind where we are in the run, and no matter where is he’ll run well.”

A six-time winner from 13 starts last term, Chancheng Glory ended his campaign with a dominant Class One victory under Zac Purton in July.

He is set to carry 116 pounds on Sunday compared to Galaxy Patch’s 129, with Hewitson to ride one pound over the four-year-old’s allotted 115.

“I’ll have him down at 116 and if I can get down to 115, that will be great,” Hewitson said. “I think it’s worth it when you’re riding these sorts of horses and after his latest trial, I think he’s better than ever.”

Hewitson will ride Call Me Glorious, who finished fourth in the Group Three National Day Cup (1,000m) on October 1, in the final race on the programme, a Class Two over 1,200m.

“We’re very happy with his first run for the season. He’s shown 1,200m is probably he’s best trip, but the 1,000m was the right race at the right time,” said the jockey.

“We would’ve expected him to run as well as he did, but also to improve from it. I galloped him [on Friday] and I’m very happy with his gallop and he’s going into the race in fine form.

“We’re quite hopeful that he’ll be one of the main contenders.”
