The Coral REEFStoration Centre provides visitors with an immersive and inspiring experience about marine conservation and biodiversity.

The oceans contain about 97 per cent of the world’s total water supply. It is crucial, therefore, that we all contribute to fostering awareness about ocean conservation. The ninth Sino Junior Reporter Programme provides a unique platform to learn more about marine conservation and biodiversity.

Organised by Sino Group and supported by SCMP Young Post, this year’s programme focuses on climate change and marine biodiversity. The immersive programme not only hones your English communication skills but also provides an enriching experience. You will have the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge innovation related to marine biodiversity first-hand and engage with field experts.

Sino Group is supporting CORAL REEFStoration, Hong Kong’s first cross-sectoral initiative for coral restoration. The project utilises Ocean Park’s marine conservation expertise and local start-up archiREEF’s proprietary 3D-printed terra cotta reef tiles to restore Hong Kong’s coral reef habitats.

Enrolment

To enrol, simply submit a 200-word article along with a photo that encapsulates your thoughts and ideas for a sustainable marine ecosystem and coral reef protection. Enrol here no later than Friday, December 8, 2023.

Journalism workshop and tour

A shortlisted group of 120 students will be invited to join a tailored English journalism workshop and field trip on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

Led by a seasoned SCMP journalist, the journalism workshop will equip students with the necessary skills to craft compelling English news stories. Sino Junior Reporters will learn practical advice on planning, conducting research and interviews, and transforming raw data into informative articles.

After the journalism workshop, students will dive into the topic of coral preservation at the Coral REEFStoration Centre at Ocean Park and learn more about marine conservation and biodiversity.

Final assignment and prizes

Sino Junior Reporters must submit a final assignment, a compelling feature article in English of no more than 500 words and up to three photos on climate change and marine biodiversity, to complete the programme. Submissions should be sent by Friday, February 16, 2024.

An award presentation ceremony will be held in March 2024. The top five articles will be awarded prizes, with the champion receiving a cash prize of HK$3,000. These winning articles will gain recognition on YP.com and social media platforms.
