Racing Incident Report
Race Six : (798) - SHING PING HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Meters
Horse No 1 INTREPID WINNER (G144) K De Melo From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After the race, K De Melo reported that he had some concerns with his mount's action in front throughout the race.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Before being allowed to race again, INTREPID WINNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Horse No 3 JOY OF SPRING (H383) C Y Ho Bumped at the start.
For some distance after the 300 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted to the outside of FOREVER GLORIOUS and in this incident made contact with SPECIAL HEDGE.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 SATIRICAL GLORY (H073) H Bowman After the race, H Bowman reported that his mount raced too keenly in the lead and as a consequence ran inside the standard time throughout the early and middle stages despite his efforts to restrain his mount.
He added as a result SATIRICAL GLORY was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 7 PEGASUS GENERAL (G189) Y L Chung Noted to have lost its right front plate after the race.
Horse No 8 SUPER HONG KONG (D241) C L Chau Bumped at the start.
Horse No 9 LEGION OF MERIT (D419) B Thompson Shifted in at the start and was bumped.
After the race, B Thompson stated that he was obliged to make some use of his mount from the 700 Metres when taken wider by SPECIAL HEDGE and as a result LEGION OF MERIT did not run on in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
The performance of LEGION OF MERIT, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, LEGION OF MERIT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Horse No 10 PALACE PAL (G172) M F Poon From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 11 SPECIAL HEDGE (H354) L Hewitson Approaching the 250 Metres was bumped by JOY OF SPRING.
After the race, L Hewitson could offer no excuse for his mount's disappointing performance.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 12 ME TIME (J074) A Badel At declaration time, H Bentley was declared as the rider of both SERANGOON and ME TIME.
It was established that H Bentley had a firm commitment to ride SERANGOON.
As such, the Stewards permitted A Badel to be substituted as the rider of ME TIME.
For this declaration error, Trainer D J Whyte was fined $2,000.
Jumped only fairly.

Late-fancied favourite Joy Of Spring responded nicely when asked for an effort to take control 100m out for a second win on the bounce after a Sha Tin 1,800m win. He is racing well. Me Time got up in the dying stages for second after biding his time four from the rear. It was clearly his best run from seven starts following a gear change. Forever Glorious chased the speed behind Satirical Glory and lost second late after moving to the lead 300m out. He is as honest as the day is long. Precise Express made ground late for fourth after settling one off the rail behind midfield. He was able to back up a close third last start. Early favourite Serangoon ran on steadily to finish next best after making his run five back on the fence. He rarely produces a bad run over this course. Pegasus General ran on without threatening after making his run one from the rear. The old-timer is beyond his better days. Punted late, Special Hedge had his chance but didn't find much in the run to the wire after chasing the leading pair on the fence. The switch to the Valley did not have the desired result.
