Racing Incident Report
Race Five : (621) - THE CHAIRMAN'S SPRINT PRIZE - Class G1 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 CALIFORNIA SPANGLE (E314) B Avdulla Approaching the finish INVINCIBLE SAGE shifted in and was then corrected by its rider, resulting in CALIFORNIA SPANGLE being positioned close to INVINCIBLE SAGE.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 MAD COOL (J803) R Sakai Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Was then ridden forward in the early stages, but when unable to cross CALIFORNIA SPANGLE was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race was found to have shifted its left front plate during the event.
Horse No 3 VICTOR THE WINNER (G404) K C Leung After the race, K C Leung reported that his mount was disadvantaged when being pressured in the lead by CALIFORNIA SPANGLE and as a consequence did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the Home Straight.
K C Leung pleaded guilty of a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he failed to ride VICTOR THE WINNER, 7th placegetter, out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
K C Leung was fined a sum of $40,000.
When considering the appropriate penalty, the Stewards took into account the consequential effects of Jockey Leung's actions in that he failed to ride his mount out over approximately the final 25 Metres and had prejudiced his connections' chances in obtaining 6th prizemoney of $440,000.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 5 INVINCIBLE SAGE (H301) H Bowman Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE (H093) J McDonald Near the 450 Metres when shifted to the outside of INVINCIBLE SAGE made contact with MAD COOL.
Horse No 7 SUNRISE RONALDO (J822) D Lane Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 9 MUGEN (H338) B Shinn Was held up for clear running for some distance approaching the 300 Metres.
Horse No 10 BELIEVING (J823) H Bentley Jumped only fairly.
Near the 900 Metres was steadied to avoid LUCKY WITH YOU (A Atzeni) which shifted in when not quite clear.
A Atzeni was advised to exercise more care.
Horse No 11 LITTLE BROSE (J246) K Teetan Jumped only fairly.
Throughout the early stages over-raced.
In the middle stages continued to over-race when positioned tight between HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE and LUCKY WITH YOU.

Invincible Sage was too good after moving to the lead 150m out after a prominent run on the fence for a fourth win plus four placings from nine starts this term. California Spangle kept on nicely for second after expending energy to prompt the pace of Victor The Winner from a tricky gate. He found one better on the day. Mugen came from a distant last at one point and widest out to just edge Flying Ace for third without threatening the top two. It was a solid effort. Flying Ace ran on well to just miss a placing after making his run two from the rear. It was another honest performance. Punted late Howdeepisyourlove ran on steadily to finish next best after a rails run from midfield. He had his chance but found a few too good. Lucky With You came up one paced after a wide trip from midfield. He needs faster ground. Victor The Winner faded after having to work for the outright lead from gate two and he may not have handled the wet track. Little Brose held his ground travelling behind midfield on the fence. Sunrise Ronaldo came from near last to finish best of the three overseas runners.
