Race Eight: (805) - DRAKE HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
EQUILIBRIUM TURBO began only fairly.
HIGH CLOUD shifted out at the start and bumped LYRICAL MOTION.
From a wide barrier, WIND N GRASS was steadied on jumping to obtain cover.
Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, NAMJONG SINGS and DIAMOND BRILLIANT failed to muster speed.
Making the turn approaching the 1000 Metres, HIGH CLOUD raced tight inside LYRICAL MOTION which got its head on the side and lay in despite the efforts of its rider.
Passing the 500 Metres, DIAMOND BRILLIANT was awkwardly placed behind CLASSIC POSH.
THE RUNNER lay out rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight.
Passing the 300 Metres, EQUILIBRIUM TURBO was shifted out a number of runners to obtain clear running.
Throughout the race, ARMOUR EAGLE travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, J Moreira was not able to offer any explanation for RISING FROM ASHES' failure to finish the race off tonight.
He said after beginning awkwardly he shifted his mount across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover so as to avoid racing unnecessarily wide.
He said after travelling satisfactorily in the middle stages, he placed RISING FROM ASHES under pressure near the 500 Metres to commence improving his position as he was still a considerable distance from the lead.
He said RISING FROM ASHES did not quicken as well as he anticipated when placed under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then in the Straight finished the race off only fairly.
A veterinary inspection of RISING FROM ASHES immediately following the race found that horse to have an intermittent displacement of the soft palate.
Also after the race, L Currie reported that CLASSIC POSH came under pressure prior to the 500 Metres and then despite being ridden out did not finish the race off over the latter stages.

RISING FROM ASHES, PING HAI GALAXY and BEAUTY GLORY were sent for sampling.

Ping Hai Galaxy kept on gamely for a nice win after getting his own way in front from gate eight. He was gifted an easy time but had been knocking on the door in two prior starts at both tracks. Beauty Glory stayed on nicely for second after chasing the winner on the fence from gate 12. It was another genuine performance despite a step back in distance. Namjong Sings ran on steadily after travelling worse than midfield on the fence to finish a distant third just ahead of outsider High Cloud. He's always a chance from a proper gate over this Valley trip. High Cloud just failed to place after a prominent run on the fence. It was a vastly improved effort. Lyrical Motion just plodded after chasing the speed one-off in third. He rarely produces a bad run in this grade. Armour Eagle just held his ground after a wide trip better than midfield. He's still paying for a sharp penalty following a win in February. Wind N Grass ran on without menacing travelling near the rear from a wide draw. It was one of the better runs. Favourite Rising From Ashes never got in on the act after travelling one from the rear. He didn't get a race run to suit and was carrying 10 pounds more following a win.
