Recap by phillip woo

In a thrilling finish, Golden Four showed a terrific turn of foot to get up in the final few strides despite getting held up towards the rear until the 200m. He had put the writing two back over this trip at his first run in the class. Easy Fortune nearly caused a boilover after narrowly hitting the front 30m out down the outside following a patient ride third last from a wide draw. It was clearly his bet run to date following a downgrade. Even Keel settled for third in the end after drawing level for the lead along the inside 150m out following a prominent run on the fence. Seize The Spirit found a few too good in the end after surging to the lead 250m out following a wide with cover run behind midfield. It was a pleasing run first up and he'll get away with a race shortly at this level. Alloy Star did get squeezed up late after looming a live chance 100m out following a one-off run behind midfield. It was a good effort following a fetlock injury in June. Brave Power produced a ducking-and-weaving run following a rail just worse than midfield to just a first four spot. It was one of his better runs. Favourite Fox Cheunger came up flat following a prominent run. He failed to build on an opening day fifth but does prefer a wet track.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (22) - SAN PO KONG HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1400Meters

EVEN KEEL shifted out at the start and bumped FOX CHEUNGER.

OURGOLDENRULES shifted out on jumping and bumped SEIZE THE SPIRIT.

TOP ACCOLADE began awkwardly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners.

On jumping, ALLOY STAR was steadied to obtain cover.

From wide barriers, EASY FORTUNE and GOLDEN FOUR were also steadied to obtain cover.

Passing the 1200 Metres, BRAVE POWER was awkwardly placed outside the heels of FOX CHEUNGER when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse.

Passing the 1000 Metres, M M JOHNNY got its head up when awkwardly placed behind OURGOLDENRULES.

ALLOY STAR, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence.

At the 900 Metres, M M JOHNNY momentarily raced in restricted room between BRAVE POWER and SEIZE THE SPIRIT.

After the 900 Metres, OURGOLDENRULES was left racing wide and without cover.

Passing the 400 Metres, BRAVE POWER was held up for clear running when awkwardly placed close to the heels of EVEN KEEL.

After this, BRAVE POWER had some difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 300 Metres.

GOLDEN FOUR had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

When held up for clear running, M M JOHNNY was shifted out towards the heels of WHO'S HORSE near the 350 Metres.

SEIZE THE SPIRIT shifted out under pressure after the 200 Metres.

FOX CHEUNGER and M M JOHNNY bumped near the 150 Metres.

C Schofield (EASY FORTUNE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 50 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in under pressure, causing ALLOY STAR to be directed in onto SEIZE THE SPIRIT, resulting in SEIZE THE SPIRIT and ALLOY STAR bumping and both horse being hampered when unnecessarily crowded for room.

In the circumstances, C Schofield was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 22 September 2021 and to expire on Monday, 27 September 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

When questioned, H N Wong (SAM'S LOVE) reported that in the early stages he had to ride his mount along quite vigorously to maintain its position as SAM'S LOVE was giving ground.

He said after the 1300 Metres he used the whip on one occasion at which stage the horse became badly unbalanced in its action and gave him the impression that it may have gone amiss.

He said based on the manner in which SAM'S LOVE felt at this time and given that the horse was having difficulty maintaining its position, he elected to ease it out of the race.

A veterinary inspection of SAM'S LOVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Before being allowed to race again, SAM'S LOVE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial carrying a raceday saddle and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, C Y Ho (FOX CHEUNGER) said that, in his opinion, the horse may not have appreciated backing up following its run last weekend.

He said after travelling in a good position throughout the race, after being shifted to the outside of WHO'S HORSE into clear running rounding the Home Turn, FOX CHEUNGER was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of FOX CHEUNGER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of SUPER KIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

FOX CHEUNGER, GOLDEN FOUR and EASY FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
