Racing Incident Report
Race Eight: (191) - PANASONIC THERMO VENTILATOR HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000Meters
PIANILLO was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore).
Before being allowed to race again, PIANILLO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
FLYING GENIUS shifted out at the start, resulting in BALTIC WHISPER losing ground when crowded.
KURPANY and ALL FOR SOUTH bumped at the start.
On jumping, DIVINE REGULUS stumbled, shifted out and hampered SPARKLING KNIGHT.
A short distance after the start, BABY shifted out and inconvenienced SHADOW RUNNER.
Passing the 500 Metres, KURPANY shifted in and inconvenienced ALL FOR SOUTH.
Near the 450 Metres, FLYING GENIUS and JOYFUL FORTUNE raced tight.
Near the 50 Metres, JOYFUL FORTUNE shifted in, requiring its rider to correct his mount.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SPARKLING KNIGHT, J Moreira stated his mount did not travel well at any stage of the race.
He said he had to ride SPARKLING KNIGHT along for a considerable distance in the early stages to take up a forward position as it was reluctant to stretch out.
He said he had to continue to ride his mount along in the middle stages to maintain his position, however, the horse came under heavy pressure prior to the 500 Metres and then, despite being ridden out, weakened noticeably over the latter stages of the race.
He added SPARKLING KNIGHT pulled up very quickly after the finish and was very unbalanced in its action.
A veterinary inspection of SPARKLING KNIGHT immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.
The performance of SPARKLING KNIGHT was considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, SPARKLING KNIGHT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of MR WEALTH immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
PING HAI BRAVO and JOYFUL FORTUNE were sent for sampling.

Ping Hai Bravo flew home late down the far side from near last to roll the odds-on favourite Joyful Fortune in deep stretch for the win. A move to a tongue-tie in his initial try over the straight 1,000m panned out in spades. Odds-on choice Joyful Fortune found one too good but was all out to hold Flying Genius for the lead from the 350m. He was giving away an edge in fitness and never had a breather in front. Flying Genius wouldn't go down without a fight after prompting the pace. He's run well in defeat in his past two straight 1,000m runs. All For South stayed on well to finish a close fourth following a handy run. He's made a good impression in his two local starts. Kurpany's condition only gave out 100m out after pressing the pace near the grandstand side. It was a positive first-up effort this season for his new trainer. Baby ran on without menacing from behind midfield. He's not far off a bottom.
