Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Virtus Star quickened nicely to overhaul Treasure Chest in the dying stages following a rail run behind midfield to make it back-to-back wins. He's in terrific form this season and can win gain. Post-time favourite Treasure Chest found one just too good after shooting for home on top at the 300m tracking the slow pace of Smiling Success. Bulb Elite kept on reasonably well for a placing after getting going 450m out following a one-off run in midfield. He has the tools to eventually get away with a race in this grade. Nitro Express ran on well from near last to fill the frame. It was a pleasing effort on the back of an inadequate pace and he may be near a bottom. Winners Brother came up one-paced when asked for an effort following a box-seat run. Wonderful Tiger peaked on his run 100m out following a rail run in midfield. Smiling Success was yielding ground at the head of the straight after getting a soft time in front.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (166) - O'BRIEN HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Meters

SMILING SUCCESS shifted out at the start and bumped TREASURE CHEST.

WONDER WIN shifted in on jumping and made contact with VIRTUS STAR.

HUMBLE STEED shifted in at the start and bumped STAR WIN.

KEEP WINNING was checked shortly after the start when crowded for room between WONDER WIN which shifted out after making contact with VIRTUS STAR and NITRO EXPRESS which shifted in.

From a wide barrier, PRESIDENT STAR was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

STAR WIN was left racing wide and without cover after passing the winning post on the first occasion.

Rounding the Home Turn, HUMBLE STEED was crowded for room between BULB ELITE and WINNERS BROTHER (M L Yeung) which improved to the outside of SMILING SUCCESS.

M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Near the 100 Metres, TREASURE CHEST shifted out under pressure.

After the race, K Teetan reported that HUMBLE STEED did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and then did not respond to his riding after being placed under pressure.

A veterinary inspection of HUMBLE STEED immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, HUMBLE STEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Also after the race, M F Poon reported that after being able to obtain the lead in the early stages, SMILING SUCCESS travelled only fairly.

He said the horse came under pressure passing the 600 Metres and despite having a soft lead did not quicken as anticipated.

He said SMILING SUCCESS came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then gave ground in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of SMILING SUCCESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

VIRTUS STAR and TREASURE CHEST were sent for sampling.
