Racing Incident Report
Race Three: (614) - QUARRY BAY HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters
AMAZING LUCK was steadied shortly after the start when crowded for room between DOCTORS DELIGHT and FOCUS which, after initially being taken in by SEIZE THE SPIRIT, then got its head on the side and shifted away from that horse.
EVERYONE'S ELITE and HAR HAR HEART began awkwardly.
SMART THINKER was slow to begin and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
From the outside barrier, FUN TIMES was also steadied and shifted across behind runners shortly after the start.
Passing the 1300 Metres, DOCTORS DELIGHT was steadied away from the heels of EVERYONE'S ELITE which shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SEIZE THE SPIRIT which was steadied.
After the 1000 Metres, EVERYONE'S ELITE got its head up when checked away from the heels of SEIZE THE SPIRIT which was steadied to obtain cover behind DIAMOND LEGEND.
DIAMOND LEGEND travelled wide and without cover until near the 900 Metres at which stage PARTY TOGETHER was left racing wide and without cover.
After the 800 Metres, SANGRIA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of EVERYONE'S ELITE.
Near the 450 Metres, SANGRIA became unbalanced when bumped by FUN TIMES which shifted out.
At the entrance to the Straight, DIAMOND LEGEND shifted out and made contact with PARTY TOGETHER.
When questioned, Apprentice C Wong stated that after the 300 Metres he considered directing SEIZE THE SPIRIT to the outside of DOCTORS DELIGHT to obtain clear running.
He said at this time SEIZE THE SPIRIT was racing just inside the heels of DOCTORS DELIGHT and he would have had to ease his mount to clear the heels of DOCTORS DELIGHT to shift to the outside of that horse.
He said as he commenced to do this, PARTY TOGETHER, which was racing inside DOCTORS DELIGHT, shifted in which resulted in a run developing between DOCTORS DELIGHT and PARTY TOGETHER.
He said he felt that it would be more advantageous to take advantage of this run rather than steady his mount to shift to the outside of DOCTORS DELIGHT, however, as he commenced to improve into the run between PARTY TOGETHER and DOCTORS DELIGHT, PARTY TOGETHER shifted back out which resulted in him being disappointed for running to the outside of that horse and causing him to shift to the inside of PARTY TOGETHER near the 200 Metres to obtain clear running.
He added although SEIZE THE SPIRIT was disappointed for running between PARTY TOGETHER and DOCTORS DELIGHT, the horse was only briefly held up for clear running and he was able to obtain uninterrupted running over the final 200 Metres.
When questioned regarding his riding of EVERYONE'S ELITE after the 800 Metres, J Moreira stated that the tempo of the race in the early and middle stages had been only fair and EVERYONE'S ELITE had raced keenly at stages because of the tempo of the race.
He said near the 750 Metres he shifted EVERYONE'S ELITE out to follow DOCTORS DELIGHT and when the tempo of the race continued to be only moderate, he elected then to improve to the outside of DOCTORS DELIGHT passing the 700 Metres.
He said he made this decision in the knowledge that EVERYONE'S ELITE, which he had ridden on a number of occasions, does not possess a good turn of foot but is more one-paced and he felt that because of the tempo of the race if he were to remain racing behind DOCTORS DELIGHT, EVERYONE'S ELITE would be left flat-footed when the pace of the race increased and this would not be in the horse's favour.
He said after shifting to the outside of DOCTORS DELIGHT into a four wide position, EVERYONE'S ELITE was then taken into a five wide position passing the 600 Metres when DOCTORS DELIGHT shifted out away from the heels of PARTY TOGETHER.
He said although the tempo of the race, in his opinion, did not suit EVERYONE'S ELITE and that the horse's chances of finishing off the race were not aided by having to race very wide making the turn after the 600 Metres, nonetheless EVERYONE'S ELITE came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then, despite being fully tested, did not finish off the race and raced "flat??tonight.
A veterinary inspection of EVERYONE'S ELITE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HAPPY WARRIOR and FOCUS were sent for sampling.

Favourite Happy Warrior ran down long-time leader Focus near the 100m for the win after a prominent run on the fence. He had been knocking on the door in recent runs and responded nicely with Zac Purton on board here. Focus wouldn't go down without a fight after leading from gate four. It was a fine effort after winning his initial run over this trip last time out. Amazing Luck ran on well along the inside to fill a placing after a rail run in midfield. He relished a return to the course and distance of a win at this level in October. Seize The Spirit ran on well to fill the frame after getting shuffled back to travel better than midfield at the 1,000m out. It was a good effort up in grade off a light weight. Specked late Diamond Legend was beaten far in the end after a tough run up on the speed from a wide gate. Prefer him in Class Five. Party Together ran on without menacing after a deep run with cover better than midfield. The big weight didn't help.
