Recap by phillip woo

Debutant Sunny Star quickened nicely to take control 100m out despite being briefly held up for a run at the 200m after settling a distant last following a slow start. He was able to prevail in a time more reminiscent of a barrier trial but there's clearly more improvement to come. Restless before the start Smiling Face kept plugging away for a second after vying for the lead as the post-time favourite. He'll certainly gain some education from the run. Chancheng Prince ran on steadily to get the head down for third after a prominent run on the far side. Sea Monarch grudgingly gave way after leading early on. Early favourite Like That was gone 100m out after rushing forward to share the lead 700 out. He clearly needed the run. Noble Soul was always struggling.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (563) - YAU MA TEI PLATE - Class GRIFFIN - 1000Meters

After being loaded into the barriers, SMILING FACE reared and momentarily got its left front leg in the adjoining stall.

SMILING FACE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was suitable to race.

Before being allowed to race again, SMILING FACE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

LIKE THAT was slow to begin.

SUNNY STAR began very awkwardly and then lost ground when crowded for room between SEA MONARCH and NOBLE SOUL which shifted in abruptly.

In this incident, SEA MONARCH and NOBLE SOUL bumped heavily, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

SUNNY STAR was held up for clear running after the 300 Metres and then raced in restricted room near the 250 Metres when improving into tight running between SMILING FACE and SEA MONARCH.

Passing the 150 Metres, LIKE THAT raced tight outside SEA MONARCH which got its head on the side and shifted out away from SUNNY STAR.

Then near the 50 Metres, LIKE THAT was steadied when crowded for room outside SEA MONARCH (K Teetan) which, when being ridden out, continued to lay out.

K Teetan was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount so as to prevent causing interference.

A veterinary inspection of NOBLE SOUL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SUNNY STAR and SMILING FACE were sent for sampling.
