Punted late Young Glory came with a sustained run from near the back at the 700m to take control 200m out for a first win at his 23rd start. Romantic Journey just out-finished Golden Kid for second after a patient ride third from the rear. He proved a last-start placing was not a fluke and should be scoring shortly at 1,800m and further. Golden Kid stayed on well to make it close for second travelling midfield on the fence after a slow start. He's building towards a win. Well-backed late Wicker battled away to finish a clearcut fourth after chasing the slow pace of Our Green. Favourite Savannah Wind came up flat when asked for an effort following a prominent run on the fence. He's still to get on track after a suspensory injury in March despite a downgrade here. Happy Hour's run from the rear ended 200m out. He's in the right grade but didn't get the trip carrying top weight. Sky Gem came up flat sitting one off without cover in a handy spot.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (133) - WA MEI SHAN HANDICAP - Class 5 - 2200Meters

GOLDEN KID was slow to begin.

SAVANNAH WIND shifted out at the start and bumped DRAGON WARRIOR which in turn shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of WICKER which became unbalanced.

HAPPY HOUR and ROMANTIC JOURNEY were steadied to obtain cover shortly after the start.

Near the 1800 Metres, DRAGON WARRIOR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SKY GEM when travelling keenly.

Then for some distance after the 1100 Metres, DRAGON WARRIOR continued to be awkwardly placed behind SKY GEM.

Rounding the Home Turn, WICKER raced close to the heels of SKY GEM.

Approaching the 200 Metres, GOLDEN KID shifted out and brushed DRAGON WARRIOR.

Passing the 100 Metres, SAVANNAH WIND raced tight inside SKY GEM which shifted in.

After the race, C Schofield reported that DRAGON WARRIOR travelled too keenly and was not able to finish off the race.

He said he felt that DRAGON WARRIOR may not have seen out the distance of tonight's race.

A veterinary inspection of DRAGON WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

A veterinary inspection of HAPPY HOUR and SKY GEM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SAVANNAH WIND, YOUNG GLORY and ROMANTIC JOURNEY were sent for sampling.
