Recap by phillip woo

Outsider Curling Luxury went pillar-to-post after leading from gate eight for a 1,800m win once each on both Sha Tin surfaces from five starts this term. He tends to mix his form but his gate speed is a terrific asset. Mister Monte just wore down Hay Run for second after travelling one-off in fourth. He's racing well this term. Post-time favourite Above closed nicely from behind midfield to just miss second. He's run well in defeat both times this season after a smart Class Five win in July. Hay Run grudgingly gave way to just miss a placing after a tactics change to track the speed. He's not far off a bottom. Enfolding was badly held up and only gained a run 100m out after making his run third from the rear. He should have finished much closer. Early favourite This One's For You was short of room at the 100m when trying to improve near the inside following a midfield run on the fence. Good Runners Way disappointed after a box-seat run.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (125) - FOSHAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Meters

CHEEKY BEE was slow to begin and shifted in at the start, resulting in the horse being checked away from the heels of THIS ONE'S FOR YOU.

A short distance after the start, GOOD FIT shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of THIS ONE'S FOR YOU.

In the early stages, ENFOLDING was steadied to obtain cover whilst INDIGENOUS STAR, from the outside barrier, was also steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, THIS ONE'S FOR YOU was awkwardly placed behind HAY RUN.

ENFOLDING lay in rounding the Home Turn.

ENFOLDING was then badly held up for clear running from on straightening until near the 100 Metres and consequently was not able to be properly tested.

When held up for a run, ENFOLDING was shifted in passing the 200 Metres in an attempt to obtain clear running and made contact with THIS ONE'S FOR YOU.

When questioned, K C Leung stated that as HAY RUN has routinely been slow to begin in its races, he was asked to shift the horse across behind runners and obtain cover and not allow it to get too far out of its ground, if possible.

He said he was told in the event that HAY RUN did happen to begin satisfactorily, he should attempt to obtain cover on the horse from the wide barrier, however, he was not to overly restrain it.

He said HAY RUN began much better today than had been anticipated and in the very early stages took up a forward position of its own accord.

He said in the early stages he considered obtaining a trailing position behind MISTER MONTE as he felt that ABOVE, which was racing to that horse's inside, may maintain its position which would allow HAY RUN the opportunity to obtain a trailing position behind either MISTER MONTE or ABOVE.

He said when ABOVE was steadied by its rider, he believed that it was no longer available for him to obtain cover, therefore he rode his mount along near the 1700 Metres to shift in to race outside CURLING LUXURY passing the winning post on the first occasion so that HAY RUN did not cover unnecessary ground.

He added HAY RUN travelled well in the early and middle stages and in the Straight stayed on satisfactorily when finishing off the race one-paced.

Mr L Ho, the trainer of HAY RUN, confirmed the instructions given to Jockey Leung and stated he did not anticipate the horse would begin as well as it did.

He said HAY RUN had not begun well in its races when trained by him and as such he expected the horse to be towards the rear of the field.

He said, given the way that HAY RUN began, he was satisfied with Jockey Leung's decision to obtain a forward position.

After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that ENFOLDING was mildly lame in its left front leg.

A veterinary inspection of GOOD FIT and GOOD RUNNERS WAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

ABOVE, CURLING LUXURY and MISTER MONTE were sent for sampling.
