Recap by phillip woo

Raging favourite Regency Legend won with something in hand after reclaiming the front near the 300m sitting one off from a middle gate to remain unbeaten in four starts. Seasons Bloom finished nicely to grab second 100m out after settling three deep travelling one from the back. He had been training well and will be looking forward to a longer trip. Jolly Banner closed well down the outside after settling third from the rear to grab a placing 50m out. He does usually go well fresh. Nibbled at late, Styling City had no more to offer inside the last 100m after working to the front 900m out. He's more effective over the straight 1,000m. Wishful Thinker just held his ground after a box-seat run. He needed the run and the big weight didn't help. Winner's Way found nothing after travelling last in the run. He's off his game. California Fortune was a non-factor in the drive after a one-out, one-back run for his new trainer.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (3) - THE HKSAR CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 1 - 1200Meters

CALIFORNIA FORTUNE began awkwardly.

From the outside barrier, JOLLY BANNER was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

After the 700 Metres, JOLLY BANNER and SEASONS BLOOM raced tight.

Approaching the 250 Metres, WISHFUL THINKER shifted out and brushed CALIFORNIA FORTUNE, resulting in WISHFUL THINKER becoming unbalanced.

Approaching and passing the 100 Metres, SEASONS BLOOM lay in.

When questioned, K Teetan stated that he was asked to ride WISHFUL THINKER where it was comfortable.

He said it was anticipated that CALIFORNIA FORTUNE, REGENCY LEGEND and STYLING CITY would take up a forward position and that WISHFUL THINKER would be able to take a trailing position behind these horses.

He said WISHFUL THINKER began very well and he steadied his mount shortly after the start to allow REGENCY LEGEND to cross.

He said he had intended to remain racing one horse off the rail following REGENCY LEGEND rather than shifting in to race on the rail behind STYLING CITY.

He said near the 1000 Metres CALIFORNIA FORTUNE shifted in and brushed WISHFUL THINKER which resulted in WISHFUL THINKER commencing to race keenly.

He said WISHFUL THINKER would not relax and got its head up on a number of occasions when continuing to race tight inside CALIFORNIA FORTUNE and close to the heels of REGENCY LEGEND.

He added because of the manner in which WISHFUL THINKER would not relax in the middle stages, the horse was then not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of WISHFUL THINKER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, J Moreira reported that after racing in the lead, STYLING CITY travelled satisfactorily and after being ridden along rounding the Home Turn was then somewhat disappointing in the Straight as it did not finish off the race as strongly as anticipated.

He added however that, in his opinion, he anticipated STYLING CITY would improve for the run.

A veterinary inspection of STYLING CITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on REGENCY LEGEND at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, REGENCY LEGEND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

REGENCY LEGEND and SEASONS BLOOM were sent for sampling.
