Recap by phillip woo

Odds-on choice Snap Fit won going away near the 100m after being hustled to travel box-seat to remain unbeaten in two starts. He'll continue to shine off a light weight in Class Three. Demons Rock closed well to grab second 50m out following a one-off run behind midfield in his best run from 15 starts. He's likely turned the corner. Hong Kong Win flew the start to lead on his lonesome from gate 12 but was on his tippy toes 150m out. He's still learning. The Abraxas held his ground following a handy run to finish level for fourth. He seems to be heading in the right direction now. Prawn Yeah Yeah finished well widest out after making his run third from the rear. He's run well in his past two start following throat surgery. Everbrave was strung up in traffic for a good part of the straight near the inside following a patient ride fourth from the rear. He had an excuse. Best Smile was scratched at the gate by order of the stewards.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (716) - MOUNT GOUGH HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Meters

After being loaded into the barriers, BEST SMILE became fractious and reared abruptly, resulting in its rider, R Bayliss, being dislodged.

As R Bayliss was not fit to fulfil his race riding engagement on BEST SMILE due to injuring his right hand in this incident, BEST SMILE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, BEST SMILE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

EVERBRAVE shifted out abruptly at the start, resulting in PRAWN YEAH YEAH being badly crowded for room and taken out onto CASIMIRO which became badly unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by PRAWN YEAH YEAH.

In this incident, LAMAROSA, which was racing outside CASIMIRO, also became unbalanced and lost ground after being bumped by that horse which shifted out when bumped on the hindquarters by PRAWN YEAH YEAH.

After this incident, PRAWN YEAH YEAH continued to race in restricted room between CASIMIRO and EVERBRAVE.

MY POWER and ISLAND WINNER bumped at the start.

DEMONS ROCK was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover, however, near the 700 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.

After initially being ridden along, MY POWER was steadied near the 900 Metres to obtain cover.

MY POWER got its head on the side and made the turn near the 550 Metres awkwardly.

PRAWN YEAH YEAH, which was following MY POWER, was inconvenienced in consequence.

Over the final 200 Metres, THE ABRAXAS hung in and proved very difficult to ride.

Then for some time after the 200 Metres, THE ABRAXAS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HONG KONG WIN and consequently was not able to be ridden out for a short distance approaching and passing the 50 Metres.

Before being allowed to race again, THE ABRAXAS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial around a bend.

A veterinary inspection of THE ABRAXAS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the 150 Metres, MY POWER shifted in, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Passing the 75 Metres, IRON BOY was shifted out away from the heels of THE ABRAXAS as that horse hung in across the heels of HONG KONG WIN.

After the race, M Harley expressed concern regarding the action of LAMAROSA.

A veterinary inspection of LAMAROSA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Before being allowed to race again, LAMAROSA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned regarding the performance of EVERBRAVE, A Domeyer stated that the horse did not travel to the barriers as fluently as it did at its last start when successful.

He said for this reason he asked the Veterinary Officer to inspect the horse who reported that he could find no obvious abnormalities with EVERBRAVE.

He said as EVERBRAVE freed up in its action behind the barriers, he was comfortable to ride the horse.

He said EVERBRAVE then did not show as much early speed as it did at its most recent start and did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race.

He said EVERBRAVE quickened briefly in the early part of the Straight, however, after being shifted to the outside of IRON BOY passing the 250 Metres, then did not continue to quicken as he anticipated it would.

He added although EVERBRAVE was not able to obtain clear running over the final 150 Metres, he did not believe that the horse had travelled well and, in his opinion, would have finished marginally in advance of its final finishing position but not in the placings.

A veterinary inspection of EVERBRAVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Before being allowed to race again, EVERBRAVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SNAP FIT and DEMONS ROCK were sent for sampling.
