Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed late, Speedy King finished well near the stands side following a handy run to win going away 60m out. He took a liking to the straight 1,000m after stripping fitter for three runs. Refined Treasure found one better after darting to the lead 250m out following a prominent run in the centre of the track in a solid first run back following knee surgery. Punted late California Gungho grudgingly gave way after chasing the leader. It was a vastly-improved run with a step back in distance for his new trainer and he could get away with a race soon. Young Legend closed well from near the back to finish a distant fourth. He's naturally coming around following a recurrence of a tendon injury in June. Gratwick made some ground from behind midfield. It was a shade better effort at only his third start but will likely need more time to acclimatise. Well-punted Bright Kid only held his ground travelling behind midfield in his debut here.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (222) - THE PENINSULA GOLDEN JUBILEE CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1000Meters

PERFECT BUDDY was slow to begin.

Passing the 600 Metres, WINNING WAYS, which was laying out, was awkwardly placed outside GRATWICK which shifted in away from the heels of REFINED TREASURE.

WINNING WAYS then got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly passing the 500 Metres, resulting in YOUNG LEGEND being inconvenienced.

Passing the 400 Metres, SPEEDY KING was shifted out away from the heels of MY BEGINNER'S LUCK to continue improving.

Close to the finishing line, WINNING WAYS was awkwardly placed behind GRATWICK.

When questioned regarding the performance of MY BEGINNER'S LUCK, Apprentice M F Poon stated that the horse began only fairly which required him to ride his mount along in the early stages to obtain a forward position as instructed.

He said MY BEGINNER'S LUCK did not travel well at any stage of the race and came under pressure after the 500 Metres.

He added MY BEGINNER'S LUCK commenced to give ground prior to the 300 Metres and was most disappointing in its failure to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of MY BEGINNER'S LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of BEST SENSE, which weakened noticeably over the concluding stages, immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.

SPEEDY KING and REFINED TREASURE were sent for sampling.
