Rattan just got the better of Conte close to home after seconds in two other starts this term. He's honest and remains a force to be reckoned with up to a mile. Conte stuck on very well after having to work to lead one off from a wide gate in his season debut. It was a huge run in defeat. Favourite Little Giant finished very well down the outside after cornering fourth from the back. He lost nothing in defeat and there's more to come. Morethanlucky kept grinding away to finish a distant fourth. He's honest up to a mile. Calculation made some ground near the inside following a midfield run. Off his current mark, he might prove more effective on the dirt. Simply Brilliant ran on without menacing settling fifth from the rear. He got too far back in the run and the mile might suit him better now. What Else But Yous peaked on his move from behind midfield at the 100m. He needed the outing following a suspensory injury in May.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (170) - THE PANASONIC CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 1 - 1400Meters

JOYFUL TRINITY began very awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground.

Before being allowed to race again, JOYFUL TRINITY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

WAH MAY FRIEND shifted out at the start and inconvenienced LITTLE GIANT.

From wide barriers, FIGHT HERO and DOCTOR GEOFF were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Passing the 1200 Metres, WHAT ELSE BUT YOU raced tight inside RATTAN.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, CALIFORNIA WHIP was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of MORETHANLUCKY which was taken in marginally by CONTE.

Passing the 250 Metres, JOLLY BANNER was shifted out away from the heels of CALIFORNIA WHIP (N Callan) which shifted in under pressure.

N Callan was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

When questioned, D Whyte stated that, despite riding SIMPLY BRILLIANT along for some distance in the early stages, the horse did not show early speed and consequently raced further back in the field than had been intended.

He said then in the Straight SIMPLY BRILLIANT did not initially quicken as he expected and was finishing off the race only fairly.

He said he had intended to improve inside WHAT ELSE BUT YOU to follow the eventual winner through passing the 250 Metres, however, SIMPLY BRILLIANT was not going well enough to be able to improve into this run and when WHAT ELSE BUT YOU shifted in passing the 200 Metres, he shifted SIMPLY BRILLIANT to the outside of that horse near the 150 Metres to obtain clear running.

He added, based on the fact that SIMPLY BRILLIANT did not show early speed and the manner in which it finished off the race, he suggested to the connections that the horse may be better suited by stepping up in distance in its future starts.

A veterinary inspection of JOLLY BANNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LITTLE GIANT, RATTAN and CONTE were sent for sampling.
