Racing Incident Report
Race Eight: (398) - SAM SHING HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Meters
BEAUTY MILES began only fairly.
From wide barriers, GREEN CARD and LITTLE ISLAND were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
BEAUTY MILES lost its left front plate near the 1000 Metres.
EVERBRAVE made the first turn after the 900 Metres awkwardly.
Passing the 600 Metres, CHIMBORAA and TURIN REDSTAR raced tight as TURIN REDSTAR improved to the outside of EVERBRAVE.
After this, CHIMBORAA got its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn.
Passing the 550 Metres, INFINITY ENDEAVOUR was taken wider by SLEEP EDUCATION which shifted out.
Approaching the 500 Metres, EVERBRAVE got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of STAR SHINE which resulted in EVERBRAVE being awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLYING LOVER.
Passing the 300 Metres, C P POWER was struck across the nose by the whip of N Callan (CHIMBORAA).
When giving ground after the 200 Metres, CHIMBORAA shifted ground on a number of occasions.
When questioned regarding his riding of A BEAUTIFUL, W M Lai stated that he was asked to have the horse in 5th or 6th position if possible.
He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along in the early stages, however, A BEAUTIFUL did not show any initial speed and was crossed in the early stages by EVERBRAVE and C P POWER.
He said despite continuing to be ridden along in the early stages, A BEAUTIFUL did not show any early speed and consequently raced much further back in the field than had been intended.
When questioned regarding his riding in the Straight, W M Lai stated that A BEAUTIFUL got its head on the side and shifted out when being ridden along in the early part of the Straight and for this reason he was reluctant to use the whip on the horse.
He said he continued to ride the horse out hands and heels and it was not until near the 200 Metres that he was able to balance up A BEAUTIFUL and commence to ride the horse with the whip in the right hand.
W M Lai was advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that he had ridden the horse along in the early stages, his riding of A BEAUTIFUL in the Straight had come under notice.
He was further advised he must ensure that he properly tests his mounts and displays sufficient vigour so that his riding is not subject to questioning.
INFINITY ENDEAVOUR, C P POWER and TURIN REDSTAR were sent for sampling.

Punted late C P Power let down stylishly when the gap finally presented itself 150m out to run down early favourite Turin Redstar 50m out for third win. He's only missed a pay slip once from 19 starts and should remain competitive following a five or six-point penalty. Turin Redstar was just denied after working to the lead 200m out following a rail run travelling fore of midfield. He's run well in defeat three times and will be winning shortly. Sleep Education couldn't match the top pair in the late stages with a midfield move. He's naturally finding his feet in his seven starts and the step back up to the 1,400m suited. Post-time favourite Infinity Endeavour came home a distant fourth after pulling very wide around the final bend following a one-off run travelling worse than midfield. He's getting up there in the handicaps following a win two back but his versatility at 1,200m to 1,600m keeps the options wide and a move to the dirt might suit as well.
