Recap by phillip woo

Razor Quest finished nicely two from the right after switching off fourth from the rear to just get up for a second win over the 1,600m from his past four starts. He'll likely find things harder following a penalty. Royal Performer angled into the open 350m out following a one-off run beyond midfield and closed off nicely to make it close on the wire. He's naturally come to hand in his past three of five starts and will be winning shortly. He'll likely get 1,800m as well. Favourite Penang Hall ran on nicely three off the rails to just miss second following a midfield run. The 10-pound allowance certainly helps but he looks like he can add to a last-start win in this grade. Rattan hit the front a bit early approaching the 300m following a prominent run and was a sitting duck late. Still it was a pleasing first run in the class and he has the tools to head higher with only five runs under his belt. Ishvara kept on all right after setting around midfield with cover from midfield. He can pop up at any time in this class. Go Beauty Go had no excuses following a box-seat run. He's had a lot of racing and might need to catch his breath after winning three of four starts at one point.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (579)-POTTINGER PEAK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1600Metres

ISHVARA shifted out at the start, resulting in FULL GLORY being taken out onto EASY HEDGE which was hampered.

After this, from a wide barrier, EASY HEDGE was shifted across behind runners.

ROYAL PERFORMER was crowded for room on jumping between RAZOR QUEST which shifted out and PENANG HALL which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

FULL GLORY lost its left front plate at the start.

Approaching the 1400 Metres, RULE THEE was steadied when crowded for room inside GO BEAUTY GO which was taken in by PENANG HALL which was crowded for room inside RATTAN when that horse was taken in by SUNNY WIN (K C Leung) which, after initially shifting in, was then directed out to relieve the tightening to runners to its inside.

When SUNNY WIN was shifted out to relieve the tightening, it bumped with CHEERFUL BOY which was also shifting in.

K C Leung was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leaves sufficient racing room for other runners in similar circumstances.

CLOUD NINE raced wide and without cover until after the 700 Metres.

PENANG HALL was held up for clear running until passing the 300 Metres.

Passing the 200 Metres, the whip of Z Purton (GO BEAUTY GO) was knocked from his grasp by the whip of Apprentice H T Mo (CHEERFUL BOY).

After the 200 Metres, RATTAN got its head on the side and lay out under pressure.

After the race, K C Leung reported that after having to make use of SUNNY WIN in the early stages to clear runners to its inside, the horse then did not close off the race and weakened in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of SUNNY WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned, Apprentice K K Chiong stated that she had been asked to take up a forward position on HIGH VOLATILITY as it is somewhat one-paced and was successful when ridden in this manner at its last start.

She said however that HIGH VOLATILITY was slow to begin after being fractious in the barriers and this resulted in the horse settling at the tail of the field in the early stages.

She said after the 1200 Metres she was racing behind LITTLE ISLAND and inside CLOUD NINE and as she did not want HIGH VOLATILITY to be left flat-footed, she elected to improve around CLOUD NINE in the hope that she might be able to obtain a position in advance of that horse with some cover.

She added however that HIGH VOLATILITY was then required to race wide and without cover for the remainder of the event and consequently weakened.

A veterinary inspection of HIGH VOLATILITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of GO BEAUTY GO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

PENANG HALL, RAZOR QUEST and ROYAL PERFORMER were sent for sampling.
