Recap by phillip woo

Punted late, Amazing Always came on nicely after a rails run in midfield to take control 50m out for a fifth win from eight starts in the grade. He's certainly one to follow when downgraded. Yourthewonforme assumed the lead 150m out following a box-seat run and couldn't hold off the winner. He keeps promising without delivering but seemed to appreciate the change in tracks. Favourite Rewarding Flyer ran on steadily to finish a non-threatening third after sitting outside the eventual winner in the run. He's limited but certainly a winner waiting to happen in the grade. Young Dreamer flew the start and gave a cheeky sight at huge odds in a vastly-improved run at his 10th start. He was suited by the drop in grade but will need to prove this was not a one-off performance. It was a ways back to the rest but last-start winner Ambitious Speedy did make some ground after travelling fourth from the rear from a wide gate. He remains one to keep safe at this level especially if he draws a better gate.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (572)-D'AGUILAR PEAK HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1400Metres

BRILLIANT MONKEYS began awkwardly and then was crowded for room between SUPERNATURAL and HAPPY BEAUTY, both of which shifted ground.

This resulted in BRILLIANT MONKEYS racing back in the field.

After this, despite being hard ridden, SUPERNATURAL failed to muster speed.

Also despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, AMBITIOUS SPEEDY was slow to muster speed.

Approaching the 1100 Metres, REWARDING FLYER raced tight between WINNING BOY and YOURTHEWONFORME.

Passing the 1100 Metres, SPARKLING TALENT got its head up when racing keenly and being checked away from the heels of GOLDEN GLORY which travelled wide and without cover throughout the race.

When giving ground in the Straight, GOLDEN GLORY got its head on the side and hung out.

A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN GLORY immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small cut to the outside of the left hind pastern.

The performance of GOLDEN GLORY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN GLORY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the 700 Metres, YOUNG DREAMER lay out.

YOUNG DREAMER continued to lay out rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight drifted out under pressure.

N Callan (AMAZING ALWAYS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift out across the rightful running of YOUNG DREAMER, causing that horse to be hampered and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

N Callan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 23 April 2017 and to expire on Thursday, 27 April 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, N Callan was fined $22,500.

Passing the 100 Metres, YOUNG DREAMER raced tight inside the heels of YOURTHEWONFORME.

AMAZING ALWAYS lost its right front plate after the race.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SPARKLING TALENT at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, SPARKLING TALENT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of WINNING BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

REWARDING FLYER, AMAZING ALWAYS and YOURTHEWONFORME were sent for sampling.
