Reigning champion Cheung clinched gold in men’s foil fencing for the second consecutive Games, following a nail-biting showdown that ended in a dramatic 14-14 tie with Italy’s Filipo Macchi.

The 27-year-old made history as the first defending champion in 68 years in this Olympic event, while securing Hong Kong its second gold medal of the Games after Kong’s victory two days earlier.

“Defending the title is an incredible feat. I can’t believe it worked. Cheung is awesome!” one Weibo user wrote.

“Vivian Kong and Cheung Ka-long embody the spirit of Hong Kong as I remember it,” another user praised.
