French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati’s failed attempt to clear the pole went viral on social media earlier this week.

Wearing a tight men’s leotard, the 21-year-old looked set to clear a height of 5.70 metres in the men’s qualification round. Yet despite a smooth lift off the ground and a graceful turnaround before landing, his crotch, along with the knees, prevented him from clearing the bar during his third attempt.

He ended up finishing 12th in Group A with a height of 5.60m and fans left in stitches at the way his Olympic challenge ended.

The replay of his performance quickly went viral on social media worldwide, with tens of thousands of users flocking to his Instagram account – followers have grown from a few thousand to more than 107,000.

“Olympics won’t make you rich, OnlyFans will. We are waiting,” one commented under one of his Instagram posts.

“I salute your determination, it was really big yesterday,” another commented with a pun.
