Video of NBA star Thompson’s shooting woes against ‘random hooper’ Xu goes viral

A video showing Hong Kong basketball player Oliver Xu guarding four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson, as the newly signed Dallas Maverick misses a host of shots, has gone viral.
And social media users who did not know Xu’s background, have mocked Thompson for failing to score against “a random hooper” or an “Uber driver”.
The former Golden State Warrior was called “washed-up” in other posts underneath the video, which Xu first posted on his Douyin account. It subsequently received more than 300,000 likes and was reposted on X, YouTube and Reddit.
Xu and Thompson were among several players taking part in the pro runs organised by renowned NBA skills coach Jordan Lawley at a gym in Irvine, California.
The minute-long video, highlighted by Xu’s left-hand slam after skipping past Thompson down the baseline, started with the pair both making baskets.
Still, commenters from the United States were quick to focus only on the latter part of the video, when four-time NBA champion Thompson kept missing shots. Some reposted videos were even trimmed to show only Thompson’s failures.
