“Sources close to the situation are adamant that, like Harry Kane, the conversations around this new deal are very advanced but the belief is that Spurs will hold off on an announcement until the end of the season,” Eurosport reported.

Mourinho told the press after his side’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, where Son broke his five-game goal drought as Kane returned from injury, that the delay was down to Covid-19.

“Son is not a problem, he has a contract still for a couple of years if I’m not wrong, maybe even three. I believe, just to wait for the right moment to do it,” he said.

“Probably this situation with the world where we are, the Covid situation, I don’t think it’s the right moment for players and clubs to discuss contracts with so many people losing jobs and not working and difficulties.
