Move over utilitarian industrial chic, because the new season brings an entirely new spread of interior trends. As recent crazes for no-frills chic fades with winter, a new mood for nurturing and fun is on the horizon, as designers seek an antidote to global affairs.

Natural materials and themes are big news as interiors move towards a casual, comfortable space.

“Incorporating natural materials and themes continues to become increasingly popular. Distressed furniture adds character to your home, along with a raw but rustic, lived-in feel,” says Kate Babington, managing director of TREE. “Natural materials invite a casual, comfortable and chic ambience into your space.”

These neutrals are accentuated by quirky accessories that are not always what they seem and add an element of surprise. At TREE, this includes new additions to its Soul collection of furniture made from recycled teak that captures the lived-in feel.

Practical pieces such as console tables and multiracks feature the collection’s usual textured and weathered panels that on closer inspection feature hand-painted details.

Terracotta is the other big news at TREE, where ceramics take on distressed details that resemble weathered tree trunks and terracotta vases appear in on-trend turquoise and gunmetal grey that add a subtly modern update to the home.
