Hong Kong policy address to prioritise city’s development, residents’ livelihoods: John Lee

City leader also says annual blueprint guided by some 9,500 written opinions and views gathered in the past three months

Hong Kong’s leader has said his third policy address to be delivered on Wednesday will focus on reforms aimed at enhancing the city’s development and improving people’s livelihoods.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu shared about the annual blueprint at a weekly press briefing on Tuesday revealing the theme of this year’s address: “Reform for Enhancing Development and Building Our Future Together”.

“The same green colour was adopted as it symbolises policy continuity and relevancy. Green also represents harmony, vitality and prosperity,” he said as he held up copies of the document before meeting the government’s key decision-making Executive Council.

“This highlights that Hong Kong is transitioning from governance to prosperity, at a moment when thousands of sails have been raised together with strength.”

Lee said the 9,500-odd written opinions and views gathered in the past three months had guided him in setting the priorities.

He stopped short of revealing more details of his policy measures, but said this year’s appendix would replace certain policy documents in previous years to provide more comprehensive guidelines.

The Post previously reported that in Lee’s coming address - the third of his five-year term - he would announce plans to diversify the economy through innovation and new industries such as life sciences, while rejuvenating local sectors including the fashion trade. His administration would also bolster efforts to entice more drug companies to conduct clinical trials and other research locally.
