Hong Kong’s gold-winning fencer Vivian Kong to join Jockey Club to promote youth, sports
- Athlete, 30, will join city’s biggest charity group and oldest racing club to promote development of young people and sports
Raymond Tam Chi-yuen, executive director of the club’s corporate affairs, confirmed the Post’s report earlier on Tuesday, saying that Kong would assume the position of assistant external affairs manager from Sunday.
“Vivian will be involved in different work areas and assist in the implementation of a series of projects, covering social welfare, youth affairs and sports development,” he said, adding that she would also assist the executive director of corporate affairs with stakeholder liaison.
“I’m very happy that Vivian, an Olympic gold medal athlete from Hong Kong, China, is attracted by the club’s purpose and core values. Her desire to contribute to society is also consistent with the club’s philosophy,” he said.
Tam added that club had been committed to supporting the training of elite athletes as well as their career development after retirement.
Kong earlier announced that she would take a break from competitive fencing after the Paris Games to focus on a new career.
