Olympic star Siobhan Haughey: representing Hong Kong in Paris a ‘huge honour’
- City’s most decorated Olympian says she focuses on process over results, but unsure if she will take part in next Games
The swimming star was welcomed home by enthusiastic fans at Hong Kong airport on Tuesday morning after an 11-hour flight from the French capital, with the 26-year-old telling the press she wanted to “do nothing but sleep in the coming days”.
“I didn’t sleep well for the past two weeks at the Olympic Village because of the continuous days of competition. It’s hard to sleep well due to the nerves and the adrenaline,” said Haughey, who won two bronze medals in Paris.
After returning home to rapturous welcomes, she and some of her fellow Olympians are looking ahead to their future pursuits.
Gold medal-winning fencer Vivian Kong Man-wai will join the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s corporate affairs division as an assistant external affairs manager.
The club announced the move on Tuesday days after the 30-year-old said she would take a break from professional fencing to focus on a new career.
