Pro-Beijing alliance plans Legco counter-rally to back Hong Kong reform package
A pro-government group is planning to rally outside the Legislative Council when the political reform bill is expected to be put to vote next Wednesday, in a showdown with the opposition pan-democratic camp.
A pro-government group is planning to rally outside the Legislative Council when the government's political reform package is tabled next Wednesday, in a showdown with the opposition pan-democratic camp.
Organisers the Alliance for Peace and Democracy today appealed for people to gather to show support to those legislators who back the passage of the controversial resolution and those who have not made up their minds.
Supporters are asked to wear white shirts and to stay peaceful and rational.
“We hope the legislators in the chamber know there are people outside backing them up, and that there is not only one voice, the opposition voice, in the community,” Alliance spokesman Robert Chow Yung said.
“It will be a historical moment. We hope our legislators can vote for the reform so the people can elect our chief executive by one man one vote. We have been waiting for such a right for over 150 years in Hong Kong.”

Hong Kong was a British colony for more than 150 years. It was returned to Chinese rule in 1997.
