The High Court has adjourned until next Tuesday for a plea to be given by a mainland man arrested in Hong Kong over last year’s kidnapping of an heiress to the Bossini clothing chain.

The presiding judge criticised the prosecution for submitting incomplete documentary proof of his guilt on Friday.

The court heard on Friday that Zheng Xingwang, 30, was supposed to plead guilty to one count of conspiring to take or detain Queenie Rosita Law, granddaughter of late Bossini founder Law Ting-pong, by force.

But Mr Justice Kevin Zervos – formerly head of prosecution in Hong Kong – lambasted the summary of facts prepared by the prosecutors as being unable to reflect the elements of the crime in question.

“This is one of the most serious crimes to take place in Hong Kong in recent times,” Zervos said. “I have concern whether the facts support some of the elements of the crime.”

He said the summary showed “serious neglect of how they are put together” and failed to show how Zheng, for instance, used force to kidnap Law.
