In predawn operation, officers find 77 grams of suspected marijuana and five cartridges of cannabidiol in 26-year-old’s illegally parked car
Hong Kong police have arrested an alleged drug trafficker and seized narcotics worth HK$20,000 (US$2,570) after descending on the suspect’s illegally parked car, believed to be used in the delivery of the banned substance.
The 26-year-old man was detained on Tuesday by officers from the Kowloon East traffic unit, who carried out the predawn operation on Chi Sin Street in Tseung Kwan O.
During the operation, officers intercepted the man’s car after finding the vehicle parked illegally on the street at about 4am, according to the force.
“Around 77 grams of what appeared to be marijuana and five cartridges containing suspected cannabidiol oil were seized in the vehicle,” police said, adding that the haul had an estimated street value of about HK$20,000.
Officers detained the driver on suspicion of trafficking in a dangerous drug – an offence punishable by up to life in prison and a HK$5 million fine.
