Hong Kong Observatory says T1 typhoon signal in force until at least Monday noon

The Hong Kong Observatory has said the No 1 typhoon signal will remain in force until at least until Monday noon and the chance of a higher warning being issued remaining unlikely.
Tropical storm Prapiroon, which is named after a Thai rain god, was estimated to be about 590km (367 miles) southwest of Hong Kong as of 9pm.
It is expected to move north-northwest across the central part of the South China Sea at about 14km/h (8.7mph) and head towards the mainland Chinese island province of Hainan.
The Observatory said in its latest forecast that the storm would make landfall over Hainan in the next few hours, skirting more than 500km to the southwest of the city on Monday morning.
“Unless Prapiroon intensifies significantly, the chance of issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signals will be rather low,” it said.
