Panerai recreates rare vintage pieces for SIHH 2017
The Radiomir 3 Days Acciaio comes in two new editions
Panerai has a long and distinguished history as the brand of choice for many, including the Royal Italian Navy, due to its highly technical and precise watches, and their simple yet sleek designs.
Panerai fans will appreciate the amount of attention to detail that has been given to the Radiomir 3 Days Acciaio 47mm. From the case size to the colour of the dial, everything is a nod to the original design codes used by the original source of inspiration.
The bezel is the most distinctive and noticeable feature. The Radiomir 3 Days Acciaio has a 12-sided brushed steel bezel engraved with the words “OFFICINE PANERAI – BREVETTATO” in the original lettering. The Italian word “brevettato” translates to patented, and refers to the Radiomir used on the dial. Radiomir, a unique mix of radium-based powder that gives the numbers on the dial their luminescent quality, is integral to Panerai’s watchmaking identity and was filed for a patent in 1916.
The size of the case is kept at the original 47mm, and is made of stainless steel. Inside ticks the in-house Panerai Manufacture P.3000 hand-wound mechanical movement with a power reserve of 72 hours. The measurement of the calibre also matches the vintage size of the calibres from the late 1930s. The calibre, which uses two spring barrels, can be admired through the sapphire glass case back. Both watches are water resistant to about 30 metres, a nod to the brand’s history of producing watches for the navy. Removable wire loop strap attachments allows wearers to easily replace the strap.
