What do you know about Udaipur? India’s “City of Lakes” is renowned for the calming artificial water bodies which characterise the historic city. Sitting at the south of the modern day state of Rajasthan, the city has been at the heartland of the Mewar dynasty from the start, making it one of the grandest regions in a country famous for big imperial palaces.

This is where Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar hails from, and the prince is a staunch advocate of repurposing the city’s sublime palaces as supreme heritage hotels – and putting them on the world map.

Here are five things you need to know about Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, the executive director of HRH Group of Hotels and youngest son of chairman and managing director Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar.

Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar was educated in India, Australia, Singapore and London

 

As a child, Mewar attended Indian boarding school Mayo College while his higher studies took him to the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School in Australia where he gained his Bachelor of Commerce degree. Next, he took a management course at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and visited the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to participate in a workshop focusing on visitor care and security.

From this major conference, he was able to see the concerns of visitors to Udaipur’s storied City Palace in a whole new way. Afterwards, he applied the same approach at HRH Group of Hotels, founded by his late grandfather Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar in 1963.
