  • Some celebs enjoy using cannabis every day – including ladies’ man and former SNL cast member Pete Davidson – while pop divas Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus say they only indulge occasionally
  • Kate Hudson said she ‘probably’ smoked a joint with Matthew McConaughey, while Jennifer Lawrence said she would ‘get stoned’ with The Hunger Games co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson

Hip-hop legend and long-time marijuana enthusiast Snoop Dogg recently announced that he wasn’t going to smoke any more.

“After much consideration and conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke,” Snoop wrote in a seemingly solemn message shared on Instagram and X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Please respect my privacy at this time,” he added.

The rapper and entrepreneur, who has become known for his weed-related ventures over the years, provided no additional details in his brief announcement, which came the week after a new marijuana-adjacent product was introduced bearing his name.

Now the announcement has been revealed for what it really was – a marketing ploy. On Monday, Snoop, aka Calvin Broadus, announced that he was partnering with Solo Stove, a smokeless fire pit brand.

“I love a good fire outside, but the smoke was too much,” Snoop said in a press release. “Solo Stove fixed fire and took out the smoke. They changed the game and now I’m excited to spread the love and stay warm with my friends and family.”

Most have been somewhat relieved that the rapper – who has built a large part of his identity and personal brand around his pot-smoking habit – wasn’t giving up after all, but that didn’t stop ample speculation from fans before his clarification.

“You feel a certain way about this particular person who’s iconic in your life for various reasons,” said Americus Reed II, a professor of marketing at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. “And so you’re going to create a narrative in your own mind about what the particular reasons might be for this pivot.”

Snoop Dogg has been candid about his love for marijuana in the past and has launched several business ventures in the pot industry over the years – including his own cannabis brand, Leafs by Snoop. The rapper and his long-time friend Martha Stewart have also paired up for related ventures.
