Fook Lam Moon is the only “Cafeteria for the Wealthy” outlet outside Hong Kong. Led by chef Au Yeung Chung-kei, who honed his culinary skills at Hong Kong’s Fook Lam Moon for over two decades, it presents authentic Cantonese delicacies and dim sums.

We began with three appetisers: deep-fried Bombay duck, tender barbecued pork and a nicely seasoned and crunchy jelly fish. We then tried several dim sums: steamed shrimp dumpling and steamed luffa and chicken dumpling, deep-fried taro dumpling with Japanese sweet shrimp, which was delectable with its smooth taro filling and airy batter; and a savoury and tender abalone puff.

This was followed by a scrumptious baked stuffed crab shell with onions and fresh crab meat and a refreshing braised winter melon stuffed with shrimp mousse in fish roe sauce.

The restaurant’s signature crispy chicken was exceptional

The signature crispy chicken was exceptional. The free-range chicken from Qingyuan was prepared by pouring boiling oil on the bird, which keeps the meat tender and juicy and makes the skin crispy. The fried rice with assorted meats and conpoy wrapped in lotus leaf was flavourful with a hint of the leaf’s fragrance. Desserts of sweetened red bean cream with aged dried orange peel and deep-fried sesame ball were delicious.
