10 restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau newly awarded Bib Gourmands for good-value gourmet meals by Michelin Guide include one in a Kowloon housing estate

Ahead of the unveiling of the latest guide to Michelin-star restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau on March 14, the dining guide has announced selections for its Bib Gourmand category, which highlight venues offering “value for money gourmet experiences”.

According to Michelin, the criteria for good value equates to a three-course meal (drinks not included) for a maximum price of HK$400 (US$51) in Hong Kong or 400 patacas in Macau. The category also features street food and takeaway-only establishments.

The updated list in the 16th edition of the guide features 10 newcomers, 7 in Hong Kong and 3 in Macau; the additions bring the number of Bib Gourmand restaurants in the Michelin guide to 67 in Hong Kong and 10 in Macau.

The majority of the new entrants are restaurants serving Chinese favourites, such as Sang Kee Foods in Sheung Wan, famed for its Chiu Chow-style marinated goose. Cheung Hing Kee in Tsim Sha Tsui, a multi-branch venue specialising in shenjianbao, or pan-fried soup buns, was also awarded a Bib Gourmand; its signature item is described as “springy, brimming with filling and crispy on the bottom”.

Man Yuen Restaurant in Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon, also joins the list. Located within a shopping centre on the Tin Ma Court public housing estate – one of Hong Kong’s oldest – the unusually spacious restaurant has quickly became a favourite among food lovers and influencers in the year since its launch, due in no small part to the popularity of founder CK Poon Kin-wai, who was previously the general manager of three-Michelin-star Forum Restaurant in Causeway Bay.
