Rosamund Kwan auctions US$13 million of jewellery at Christie’s, and Hong Kong actress will donate part of proceeds to charity

Rosamund Kwan dominated the Hong Kong film scene in the 1980s and ’90s. Now some of her jewellery, an estimated HK$100 million (US$13 million) worth, is about to dazzle at auction.
Kwan, who starred in the Once Upon a Time in China franchise, alongside Chow Yun-fat in her debut film, The Head Hunter, and with Andy Lau in Casino Raiders, is selling 51 pieces at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels live auction in Hong Kong on November 28. And magnificent they are.
“Top lot of her collection is a ruby and diamond ring estimated between HK$22 million and HK$35 million,” Vickie Sek, chairman of the jewellery department for Christie’s Asia-Pacific, told the Post.
Another highlight, says Sek, is a 22.18 carat diamond and ruby pendant necklace, estimated between HK$13 million and HK$18 million.
“Rosamund is not only a celebrated actress but also an enthusiastic investor, and jewellery is one of her favourite investments,” says Sek. “She would rather choose a diamond with the best colour and clarity, even if the weight is not as significant as others, as it will always keep its value.”
