Land Rover suing HK companies for name theft
Land Rover, the British 4x4 car manufacturer with a 63-year history, is suing Hong Kong's England Land Rover Co, registered two years ago, for allegedly pinching its name. The company has only one director, Wu Xiao Chun, who also registered a UK Landrover Group Ltd in England last year. Land Rover wants the Hong Kong company to change its name, destroy anything with the brand name on it and force an inquiry into how much is owed in damages as the company 'does not presently know the full extent of the defendant's wrongful acts'. Land Rover filed a writ in the Court of First Instance on Friday.
Companies pursuing cash for forged cheques
Three parties are taking the Bank of China to the Court of First Instance to claim back a combined HK$11.9 million they lost in over 200 forged cheques from con man Man Chi-fong. The first plaintiff, Sean-Tech (HK), says the bank failed to 'make such inquiries as an honest and reasonable banker would have made' and is liable for not detecting the forgery or alerting the plaintiff to the unusual transactions. The other plaintiffs are Century Pacific Holdings and Tao Kwok-yu.
Driver suspended over incorrect stopping
A Light Rail Transport train driver has been suspended after an investigation found that he opened a door in the rear compartment of a route 610 train running towards Tuen Mun Pier, which had stopped outside the Hong Lok Road station platform area on Friday night. No passenger was injured. MTR apologised for any inconvenience caused.
