Candy Hui Yin-bun and David Ng Ka-wai met in a McDonald's, courted over Chicken McNuggets and are now planning to hold a party to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary there in December next year.

Sitting in a McDonald's restaurant in Admiralty, Ng, a librarian, and Hui, who are in their 30s, said they were very excited at the prospect.

Today, they and eight other couples will put on wedding attire for a promotional event at the fast-food chain's Hung Hom outlet, to compete for the best idea for a McDonald's wedding party.

Hui said she planned to decorate her anniversary venue with the McDonald's character, Hamburglar. 'Our venue will be filled with black and white balloons and we will ask all our guests to wear clothes with black and white horizontal stripes [matching those of Hamburglar],' she said.

Hui, a hotel sales manager, said they had wanted to stage a 'McAnniversary' party since last year; they did not want a conventional celebration where 'children will be bored'.

They heard about the fast-food chain's weddings after the company recruited interested couples on the Facebook social website last month.
