My goodness. Your streets are all clean and the air even near the roads is fresh. How do you do that? Engines burn fuel after all - where are all the fumes?

Why should travelling produce fumes? We all ride bicycles to school. It keeps us healthy and safe, and if we get tired, the rechargeable cell can always power the wheels for a while. Burning fuel? Our vehicles use non-polluting electricity. So if you need a car to travel long distances, electric cars can do the job. After all, each time you charge it, you can travel up to 200km. If you forget to charge it, you can plug in at any car park.

Come to think of it, we have electric cars, too, such as the General Motors EV1 and the Mitsubishi MiEV. In fact, our Environment Bureau recently signed an agreement with Mitsubishi and is now testing the MiEV. Let's hope we can get our hands on some soon. As for bicycles, the Netherlands is a small country famous for its bicycles. Hong Kong is small, too - perhaps it can work here.

Fun fact:

Charging an electric car only produces about 30 per cent of the emissions created by gasoline-using cars. This is because they convert energy more efficiently. That means less energy loss, fewer pollutants emitted and less cost per kilometre.

What about air conditioners? You must need those in the summer. How come I've never seen one in your buildings?
