DJ Kid Koala, the Canadian whiz kid and self-confessed nerd, is set to hit Hong Kong for the first time. His fans will be able to see him spin on July 10 for Heineken's Thirst series.

Born in Vancouver, DJ Kid Koala is Chinese-Canadian - his real name being Eric San. But that does not define his type of music. We are not sure how to, since one of his songs has the sounds of him typing, while another - called Emperor's Main Course - has loads of Cantonese phrases sampled in, mostly Hong Kong delicacies, of course.

The 30-year-old has branched out into art - his sketches and drawings can be seen everywhere, and we hear his latest CD, Some of My Best Friends are DJs comes with a 50-page book.

He will scratch, mix, juggle and cut up an eclectic mix of hip-hop, jazz and funky beats on 3 Technics turntables. The word on the street is that Kid Koala delivers an amazing, jaw-dropping show.

He will be coming from Taipei to Hong Kong, then he's off to Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo and Bangkok. But Hong Kong is by far the highlight for him, and he'll be spending time with his grandma. How sweet ...
