It was a meeting of minds earlier this week when two Hong Kong fashion designers met to discuss their latest work.

Vivienne Tam gracefully sauntered into the shop Tabla to see her friend Tania Mohan. As two women designers that create fashions inspired by the east, they had much to share. Talk was about Indian fabrics, embroidery, jewels and original designs. CitySeen asked them how they stand out from the other haute couture designers when everyone seems to be obsessed about how to incorporate Asia into their designs.

'The key to success is not just about east meets west,' said Vivienne. 'I am from here, so of course I find inspiration from here, but you have to stay true to yourself and know that your work represents you. You must remain yourself.'

So what are her favourite places to go when she is in Hong Kong? Where does she get her flashes of brilliance?

'Well here [Tabla] is a good start. A place that has brilliant colours, fabrics, and is handmade, and fresh designs. I have loads of swatches from India that I look at every day for ideas,' said Vivienne.
